Sandy River Winter Steelhead (Dec – March) – One of Oregon’s most famous steelhead rivers, the Sandy is a 56 mile long free-flowing glacial mountain river along the Oregon Trail. From its headwaters high on Mt. Hood to its delta on the Columbia River, the Sandy is arguably the best maintained urban river in the world. The Sandy River recently implemented a wild broodstock hatchery program for winter steelhead. The program uses only Sandy River native fish for hatchery broodstock production.

A Sandy River native winter steelhead is truly a special breed. These big wild fish can grow to be over 20 pounds. All non fin-clipped native fish must be released unharmed. Hatchery winter steelhead start entering the Sandy River in good numbers starting in December. These adipose fin-clipped hatchery fish average 8-12 pounds and some of the fin-clipped wild broodstock fish can reach 15 pounds. Sandy River winter steelhead are aggressive and full of fight often jumping into the air while attempting to throw your hook.

We offer full day heated driftboat trips for Sandy River winter steelhead starting in December. These trips take place in the scenic Sandy River Gorge located within the Portland metro area only 20 minutes away from Portland International Airport. Columbia River Summer Steelhead (May – November) – We offer summer steelhead trips on the Columbia River and its tributaries from May – November. Summer steelhead are fun to catch for anglers of all ages and skill levels. These sea-run rainbow trout are acrobatic fighters that make numerous runs and put on terrific aerial displays when hooked. Good numbers of summer steelhead start entering the Sandy River each spring as the winter snowpack melts along with the rising temperatures.

Join us for a scenic driftboat trip in the Sandy River Gorge starting in May when chrome bright summer steelhead and fresh spring Chinook can be found in the river at the same time. In the summer and fall, the summer steelhead run is in full swing on the mainstem Columbia River, where B-run summer steelhead heading up to the Clearwater and Snake Rivers in Idaho have been caught up to 20 pounds. Join us for an exciting day of summer steelhead fishing on the beautiful Columbia River.
